Community Involvement

Community Involvement is a long-standing objective of the 1st U.S. Volunteer Cavalry Regiment - Rough Riders, Inc. For over 36 years, the Regiment has contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars both financially and in volunteer hours. Whether providing a material goods or manpower, Rough Riders live to get up close and personal with the community where they live and work. To request the support of the Rough Riders, please call (813) 248-1898 or email your request to admin@tamparoughriders.org.

The Regiment makes it a priority to contribute to a wide range of worthy recipients. Some of the organizations they have supported in the past are:

Children's Home Society of Florida - Joshua House

We owe it to kids to consistently find ways to do it better. So we do. Research reveals that abuse is generational. So we declared our ambitious goal: to break this tragic cycle in more families. And we have. But we've done so much more, too - all because we believe kids, teens and families deserve the very best we can give.

All Children's Hospital

All Children's Hospital provides expert pediatric care for children and families from all across the state of Florida and beyond. Named a top 50 children's hospital by U.S. News & World Report, we provide compassionate, state-of-the-art care for infants, children and teens with some of the most challenging medical problems. As a member of Johns Hopkins Medicine, we provide access to the most innovative treatments and therapies. Taking part in pediatric medical education and clinical research helps us to provide world-class care in more than 43 pediatric medical and surgical subspecialties. More than half of 259 beds are devoted to intensive care level services. We are the regional pediatric referral center for Florida's west coast. Physicians and community hospitals count on us to care for critically ill patients and to perform complex surgical procedures. Parents count on us, too. Our philosophy of family-centered care means that family members are an important part of the healthcare team. We put this philosophy into action by including parents in making decisions and plans for their child's care. Patients who are old enough to take part in these discussions are included, too. We asked patients, parents and our staff to share ideas to help us design the 259-bed All Children's Hospital that we opened in January 2010. The result was a spacious and bright hospital with individual rooms where parents can comfortably spend the night. Combining the latest technology and our commitment to family-centered care, our hospital provides an ideal environment for healing.

Southeastern Guide Dogs and Paws for Patriots

Few things define Southeastern Guide Dogs like our graduates, those courageous, visually-impaired individuals who live in, learn at, and leave our school with a skillful guide dog by their side. Or perhaps it is our puppies, born and bred in our spotless, well-ventilated kennels; whelped with the help of our staff veterinarians; socialized by friendly volunteers; and equipped by our highly-skilled trainers for a life of loyal service. Of course, our volunteers and donors help define us, embracing our culture of service by donating 100% of the funds needed to sustain our vision and mission, at no cost to our students.

Generations of veterans have sacrificially served our country. They leave family, train tough, and survive extreme conditions. Some endure explosions and injuries, and many have lost their vision or suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress. Our Paws for Patriots programs serve active duty soldiers and retired servicemen and women with the respect and dignity they deserve. Veterans have served for freedom's sake, and now they deserve the freedom to navigate with heads high and renewed confidence.
